Vallejo street with professionally installed Christmas lights at night

Vallejo sits just south of American Canyon, ten minutes down the road from us and technically in Solano County rather than Napa. It is also the most architecturally interesting city we cover. The Heritage District holds one of the largest concentrations of Victorian housing in Northern California, and within a few miles you also have mid-century tract housing, 1980s hillside development, and newer gated communities like Hiddenbrooke.

Nowhere else in our area has that spread, and it means Vallejo quotes vary more widely than anywhere else we work.

What we do here

Neighborhood by neighborhood

  • The Heritage District and Old Town. Queen Annes, Italianates and Colonial Revivals, many restored, with the steep pitches, turrets, brackets and deep porches that come with them. These are the best homes in our whole service area for a traditional C9 display — the architecture does most of the work and warm white on original trim looks extraordinary. They are also the most labour-intensive, and older fascia needs care.
  • Glen Cove. Established 1970s and 80s homes on curving hillside streets, mature landscaping, plenty of two-story frontage. Access varies a lot with the slope of the lot, so we scope these individually.
  • Hiddenbrooke. Newer gated development, larger homes, tile roofs, HOA rules. Perimeter method throughout, and the same neighbor-coordination advantage as American Canyon — compact streets make grouped installs cheaper.
  • The hillside neighborhoods above the strait. Steep driveways and multi-level frontages where ladder placement decides what is reachable. We are candid at the walkthrough about anything we cannot get to safely.
  • Mid-century tract areas. Long simple single-story rooflines. The best value per foot in the city and quick to install well.

Older homes need a different approach

Victorian and early-century housing has particular issues that newer stock does not, and pretending otherwise is how people end up with damage:

  • Fascia condition varies enormously. Century-old trim is sometimes immaculate and sometimes soft. We check before we clip, and where a board will not take a clip we work from the gutter line or design around that elevation.
  • Original gutters can be delicate. Half-round and box gutters on restored homes are often original. Clip choice matters, and we use ones that spread load rather than concentrate it.
  • Nothing gets fastened into the building — ever. On a restored Victorian this is not a preference, it is the whole ballgame. No nails, no staples, no screws.
  • Complex rooflines take longer. A turret and three gables is not the same job as a straight eave, and we quote the time honestly rather than discovering it on install day.

Common questions

Vallejo is Solano County. Do you still cover it?
Yes. It is ten minutes from us, closer than most of the up-valley towns, and it is a core part of our area. Same pricing, same service response.
I have a restored Victorian. Will you damage the trim?
Nothing is nailed, screwed or stapled into your house, and on older homes we check fascia condition before clipping anything. Where a board is soft we work from the gutter line or redesign that elevation. If we think an area should be left alone, we will say so.
Are Victorians more expensive to light?
Yes, because they take longer — multiple pitches, turrets, brackets and porch detail. They are also the most impressive results we produce, and most owners consider the difference well spent.
My street is on a hill. Does that change things?
It changes access, which is the main cost driver on hillside lots. Steep driveways and multi-level frontages limit ladder placement. We scope it at the walkthrough and tell you honestly what is reachable.
Can neighbors book together?
Yes, and on compact streets like Hiddenbrooke it saves everyone money. Grouped installs on the same day cost us less and we pass part of that back.
Do you handle HOA communities?
Yes. Hiddenbrooke and similar have rules on timing and sometimes color; warm white roofline work has never been an issue in our experience. Check your CC&Rs and we will design within them.
Is takedown included?
Yes, on every install, through January, labeled and stored.
What if something fails in December?
Call or text and we come out. Vallejo is close to us, so response here is as fast as anywhere we work.
